Has your group ever thought about exploring other regions of Canada, initiating community service projects, living in another community, meeting new people, learning Canada’s other official language, or exploring Canada’s cultural diversity?

If so, the YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada Program may be for you!

This group reciprocal exchange program is designed for groups of 10 to 30 participants between the ages of 12 and 17. Participants are twinned with same-age groups from another province or territory, and they take turns staying in each other’s communities for at least five days. The YMCA strives to include participation of all youth. There are support systems in place to help ensure inclusion of communities facing access barriers.

The YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange Program is a program which offers youth, 16 and 17 years of age, the quintessential Canadian experience. Participants will have the opportunity to gain paid work experience, practice their 2nd official language skills, discover another community within Canada and develop personally. The program includes the following components:

• Duration: The program runs for six weeks in the summer, beginning in early July and ending mid August.
• Employment: Each participant will be provided with a work placement where they will be assigned an employment mentor.
• Exchange Host: During the program duration, participants stay with a host / host family and, in most cases, whenever possible; a participant stays in their home as well. We do our best to find each student a job close to their homestay.
• Group Experience and Activities: Participants are grouped together (up to 10 youth per community) and collaborate with their local coordinator to organize an agenda of activities to better know their new community and each other.
• Great Local Staff: Participants are supported by our local coordinators, all post – secondary students, who are trained to help them navigate their way through this great journey.

Le programme Échanges jeunesse Canada est conçu pour des groupes de 10 à 30 participants âgés de 12 à 17 ans. Les participants sont jumelés avec des groupes de participants du même âge, provenant d’un autre territoire ou province, et séjournent à tour de rôle dans leurs communautés respectives pour un minimum de cinq jours. Le YMCA s’efforce d’assurer que tous les jeunes peuvent participer. Il y a des supports disponibles pour inclure les communautés ayant des barrières à participer.

Le programme Emplois d’été Échanges étudiants est un programme qui offre aux jeunes de 16 et 17 ans la chance de vivre l’expérience canadienne par excellence. Les participants se verront offrir la chance de profiter d’une expérience professionnelle rémunérée, de perfectionner leurs compétences en langue seconde, de découvrir une autre communauté au Canada et de forger leur personnalité. Le programme comprend les éléments suivants:

• Durée– Le programme dure six semaines en été. Il commence au début du mois de juillet et se termine à la mi-août.
• Emploi– Chaque participant bénéficiera d’un placement professionnel dans un organisme sans buts lucratifs dans sa communauté d’accueil.
• Hôte : Tout au long du programme, les participants vivent avec une famille d’accueil/un hôte et, dans la plupart des cas et dans la mesure du possible, demeurent aussi au domicile de l’hôte. Nous mettons tout en œuvre pour que l’emploi de l’étudiant se situe près de ce lieu de résidence.
• Expérience et activités en groupe: Les participants sont regroupés (jusqu’à 10 jeunes par communauté) et collaborent avec leur coordonnateur local pour organiser un programme d’activités afin de mieux connaître leur communauté et les autres participants.
• Personnel local exceptionnel: Les participants sont soutenus par nos coordonnateurs locaux qui sont tous des étudiants de niveau postsecondaire et qui sont formés pour les aider à s’orienter pendant cette expérience exceptionnelle.
